“So you must go and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
I can remember when this picture was taken. A guy from the Salvation Army would come to the West-side Projects and preach to us every Saturday. If you’re not from Modesto, you would say,” I lived on the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks.” I don’t remember the name of the Salvation Army man, but I do remember the impact he made on my young life. I can recall a few lyrics from a song he would sing, these are the lyrics:
I may never march in the Infantry, shoot the artillery but I am in the Lord’s Army.
YES SIR! (Repeat)
I can remember how I felt to know I was a member of God’s Army! I felt like a big man (even though I was really a little guy). I had a purpose in my life. I know I was just a little kid; I didn’t realize, at that time, what a pinnacle moment it was in my life.
I am convinced that the godly influences of my youth helped me to guide my life. I thank the men & women that have dedicated their life to ministering to children! I think I know what made the Salvation Army guy so effective, he didn’t play a part. He wasn’t fake, he just revealed to us the Love of GOD.
I think I know why Christ always used children as an example, as in Matthew 18:1-5:
“At that time, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.”
You might be working kids or some other ministry; I want to encourage by this verse spoken by ST. Paul to the Galatians: And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. (Galatians 6:9 NKJV) I know at times you may feel like your doing nothing, but you don’t forget, God can make something out of nothing!(Genesis 1:1-2) And you never know, you might be impacting the next Greg Laurie or Billy Graham. 😉
